Discounts and each role's discount limit
Who can give a discount on a booking, how the limit of each role works, and where the owner changes it.
A discount needs two things: the Give discounts permission in the person's role, and a discount limit for that role, as a percentage of the booking's price. The owner can give any discount. Everyone else can go up to their role's limit, and the system checks it again when the booking is confirmed.
How the limit works
The limit is a share of the booking's price before the discount. Take a booking of BHD 500.000:
| Role (standard) | Limit | Highest discount on this booking |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | any | BHD 500.000 |
| Manager | 15% | BHD 75.000 |
| Sales | 5% | BHD 25.000 |
| Operations, Finance, Viewer | none | no discount |
In New booking, the Discount field shows the limit as a hint, for example Up to 5% (BHD 25.000). Above it, the field says Above your limit of 5% and Confirm booking cannot be pressed. People without the permission, or with a limit of 0%, do not see the Discount field at all. See Give a discount on a booking.
Changing a role's limit
The owner, or anyone who can manage roles, changes it in Team and roles → Roles and permissions:
- Find Give discounts in the Sales group and turn it on for the role.
- In the small box under the switch ("up to … %"), type the limit, from 0 to 100.
- Click outside the box or press
Enter. The message Discount limit saved appears.
People with that role see the new limit the next time their page loads. Every change to a role is written to the audit log.
Good to know
- The limit applies to each booking separately, not to a month's total.
- A booking's price is locked once it is confirmed, so a discount can only be given while the booking is being made. To lower a price later, refund the difference (Give a refund).
- Promo codes and offers follow the offer's own rules, not the staff limit: whether the customer uses them in their own account or you type the code in Promo code in New booking.
