Type your two-step sign-in code

After your password, type the six-digit code from your authenticator app or one of your recovery codes, and remember a trusted computer.

How toUpdated

When two-step sign-in is on, the sign-in page asks for a code after your password, unless this browser is remembered.

Steps

  1. After you press Sign in, the Two-step sign-in step shows the email you are signing in with.
  2. Open your authenticator app on your phone and find the entry for this account.
  3. Type the six digits it shows now. The form sends itself when the sixth digit is typed.
  4. On a computer you trust, tick Remember this device for 30 days before the last digit, or before you press Verify and sign in.

Without your phone

  1. Press Use a recovery code instead.
  2. Type one of the recovery codes you saved (XXXXX-XXXXX; the dash is optional).
  3. Press Verify and sign in.

The code works once. A message says how many are left. With 3 or fewer left you see Only … recovery codes left. Make new ones in My account., and after the last one That was your last recovery code. Make new ones in My account.

If something goes wrong

  • That code is not right. Check the time on your phone and try the newest code.: wait for the next code and type it quickly. If it happens every time, set the phone's date and time to automatic.
  • Too many wrong codes. Try again in 15 minutes.: 5 wrong codes in a row. Wait, then try again with the newest code.
  • That recovery code is not right or was already used.: try another saved code.
  • The phone is lost and no codes are left: I lost the phone with my authenticator app.
  • Use another account takes you back to the password step if you typed the wrong email.
