See the profit of each trip
Find what each trip earns after its supplier costs, and which trips run at a loss or a thin margin, on Suppliers and profit or in Reports.
Look at a trip's profit to know whether it was worth running, to price the next one, or to spot a loss before the trip leaves. You can see it in two places.
Before you start
You need permission to see profit and to see reports. Without them, the profit numbers are hidden.
Steps on Suppliers and profit
- Open Suppliers and profit.
- In Profit by trip, find the trip. Trips are listed by departure date, from a year ago to a year ahead.
- Read its Margin and profit on the right. A red bar means a loss; a sand-coloured bar means a margin under 10%.
- Click the trip. The chart …: where the money goes shows its revenue, the costs of each supplier type and the profit, with the Travellers booked out of the seats.
- To see the costs behind it, open the Payables tab and choose For … (the trip's code), then Everything if you want paid costs too.
Steps in Reports
- Open Reports and choose the Profit tab.
- Choose the period: the report lists the trips that depart in it.
- In Every trip, sort By date, By profit or By margin. The Total row adds up all trips.
- Click a trip to open its page.
- Press Export to Excel to download the list. See Run and export a report.
After you look
- The numbers change as soon as a booking is confirmed or cancelled, or a supplier cost is added or deleted.
- In the Excel file, the Cost from column tells you whether a trip's cost came from Supplier costs or Planned costs, next to the Planned cost column.
Tip
A trip that shows a high margin before it departs often has no supplier costs yet. Add them as the invoices arrive: see How profit is calculated.
